Hanhivittiko Fäbod is a historical summer pasture where you can learn more about the traditional Torne Valley life. During July there will be grazing mountain cows and you can walk around and visit the open buildings. Bring a picnic basket and enjoy a nice day outdoors. If you want a guided tour, it can be arranged by pre-booking.
Golf under the midnight sun
Tureholm’s New Golfclub is welcoming everyone to play. It is a golf course open for non-members and you don’t need a greencard or a certain handicap. Pay and play. Simple.
The resurrected church
Särkilax was the church that disappeared in the spring flood and resurrected after 400 years. A cool documentary was made about the people that rebuilt it. Sweden’s first catholic bishop helped inaugurate the church in July 2018. You can visit Särkilax church along road 99 north of Övertorneå.

Experience Övertorneå from above! Fly tandem with a certified paramotor-pilot and enjoy the breathtaking views. The local paramotor club can often be spotted flying around Övertorneå and now you can join them.

Shop award-winning meat
If you exit road 99 about 10 minutes north of Övertorneå, you will get to the village Soukolojärvi. Here you will find the shop Tornedalens Renprodukter, whom has won many awards for their reindeer meat.
From farm to table
The garden center Hietalas Handelsträdgård grow vegetables, herbs and flowers in both the greenhouse and on their open fields. Shop local produce and enjoy a cup of coffee in the shop.
Rest-stop by the river
Kattilakoski has won the award for Norrbotten County’s most beautiful rest-stop multiple times. Bring something to eat, stop and admire the river current from the cliffs. The rest-stop Kattilakoski is situated along road 99 in the village Niskanpää.
War memory in Vyöni
In the winter of 1716-1717, a band of Russian Cossacks were on a robbery campaign in Torne Valley. After several weeks, they were ambushed by the local defense. The cossacks fell to the last man, about 50 in total. Today you can visit the memory stone of the local heroes that stopped the ravaging robbers outside of the village Vyöni.
Be a tourist on the Arctic Circle
If you live somewhere within or around Övertorneå, you have probably passed the abstract latitude more times than anyone can count. But when was the last time that you stopped by the Arctic Circle monument in Juoksengi? When was the last time you read the signs? Have you ever taken a selfie on the Arctic Circle? Play tourist – we promise that it is fun! When you’re done you can cool down with food and drinks at the restaurant Polcirkelhuset next to the monument.
Rest your head at Finnmyrten
If you are looking for a simple place to stay for a good price, you can rest your head at the hostel Finnmyrten in Juoksengi. The old brick school has been converted to accommodation with bright rooms.
The accident in lake Armasjärvi.
The accident in lake Armasjärvi is one of the most devastating accidents that happened to the Swedish Army in peace time. The accident occurred on the evening of October 24, 1940 when a ferry sank in the ice cold lake and 46 men lost their life. The Norrbotten Regiment I 19 is annually commemorating the victims in Armasjärvi. You can visit the memory stone on the eastern side of the lake.
Svanstein goes Hollywood
Who needs Hollywood when you can have the Svanstein-sign? Capture a picture from a parking spot along road 99 or hike up the mountain to get really close. The view from the top is amazing!

Svanstein church with its pink color is a perfect background for Instagram, Snapchat or a dance on TikTok. The building itself is more than 150 years old and got many stories for you who want to dive into history.

Visit a world heritage site
Struve Geodetic Arc consists of several measuring points from the Black Sea all the way to Northern Norway. One of the points is located on top of the mountain Pullinki in Svanstein and is a world heritage site. You can hike to the point and imagine researchers measuring triangles between the mountain tops in the 1800s, determining the shape of the Earth long before space travel and the Internet.
Wilderness sauna
Rantajärvi Wilderness offers nice cabins in the village Rantajärvi with a sauna and beach by the lake. You can also head out to their wilderness camp Naarajärvi, a few kilometers into to the woods. The camp is beautifully situated by a lake, surrounded by forest-clad mountains. Bring your friends and rent the sauna right next to the lake for a secluded evening.
The northernmost point
The northernmost point within Destination Övertorneå is Dessans Café and Accommodation in Pello. Fill up on food and energy right next to Torne River and the bridge to Finland.
