Getting here
There are several ways of travel to Övertorneå. Here we have gathered information that can be useful when planning your trip.
Fly here
The closest airport is Luleå Airport in Sweden and is frequented by Scandinavian Airlines and Norwegian. If you’re coming in on an international flight you’ll often be changing flights at Stockholm Arlanda (1h 20 min flight time between Stockholm and Luleå).
The transfer takes 1h 40 min from Luleå Airport to Övertorneå if you choose do drive. There are options to take public transport to Övertorneå as well, by bus, and you can plan your trip here: Länstrafiken Norrbotten
You can also choose to fly to Rovaniemi or Kemi in Finland. The transfer between Rovaniemi and Övertorneå is 1 hour and 30 minutes, and about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Kemi, if you choose to drive. Since both Finland and Sweden are a part of Schengen, the border crossing is simple.

Perhaps you are planning a road trip? How fun! You’ll find Övertorneå along road 99 between Haparanda and Pajala, right on the border to Finland.
Please use caution if you drive in winter conditions. The roads are usually covered with packed snow and ice, and spiked tires are recommended. Stay alert, there are plenty of wildlife in the woodlands surrounding the roads and only a few stretches are fenced. The most common animals to see on the road are reindeer, moose, hare and fox. Drive with care!
